Logo du CFA MTCThe Collège Français d’Acupuncture (French Acupuncture College, or CFA), a learned society of acupunctural doctors

The Collège Français d’Acupuncture et de Médecine Traditionnelle Chinoise (French College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, or CFA-MTC), initially known as the Collège Français d’Acupuncture, is an association created on the model of learned societies, officially born on 22 March 2003. Its successive presidents have been Drs. Christian Rempp †, Denis Colin and Henri Yves Truong Tan Trung. Member physician are the authors or have been associated with a number of publications in a medical journal related to acupuncture.

Goals:

  • to carry out research in acupuncture and Chinese medicine,
  • to organize scientific meetings and publish scientific papers,
  • to publish books and award research scholarships and prizes in acupuncture and Chinese medicine,
  • to collect, manage, and disseminate documentation, and to coordinate and exchange work with equivalent European and worldwide associations and structures,
  • to establish the focal point and expertise for acupuncture and Chinese medicine in professional, academic, regulatory, social and other forums.

Achievements:

Among the works produced by the CFA-MTC, tools used for daily practice deserve special mention:

  • 13 proposals for good-practices recommendations on infectious risk in acupuncture. Information sheet for patients using acupuncture (2014).
  • Collaboration with the INSERM report: evaluation of acupuncture’s effectiveness and safety (2014).
  • Collaboration with AFSOS: drafting of an acupuncture repository in oncology, intended to provide clear and up-to-date information to patients and caregivers.
  • A complete and up-to-date database on acupuncture: ACUDOC2
  • An online encyclopedia for the use of members of the FAFORMEC.
  • A €1,000- scholarship award for a thesis, a paper for higher specialization in medicine or IUD, concerning acupuncture, which was notable for its quality, originality, and potential impact.

An evidence guide for acupuncture is currently being drafted.

The CFA-MTC is a member of the Conseil National Professionnel des Médecins Acupuncteurs (National Professional Council of Acupuncturists, or CNP-MA), with the Fédération des Acupuncteurs pour leur Formation Médicale Continue (Federation of Acupuncturists for their Continuing Medical Training, or FAFORMEC), the Syndicat des médecins acupuncteurs de France (French Union of Acupunctural Doctors, or SNMAF) and the Collège des enseignants universitaires de l’acupuncture médicale (College of University Teachers of Medical Acupuncture, or CEFAM).
